A Procedure

Two days ago I happened to visit Jack right when a doctor and nurse practitioner were checking his eyes. The right had been swollen with yellow discharge and the left had a hard purplish knot on the bridge of the nose. They said they would let the opthamologist diagnose and treat it on Tuesday. I came yesterday afternoon and was thankful that the opthamologist was on his way and I would be there for his visit. Dr. O'Mally was terrific - very pleasant, knowledgeable, family-centered, etc. He said Jack had a double plugged tear duct/cyst (there was a more scientific name) and drew me a picture and explained why it was good to treat it by probing through the eye to open the blockage and drain the infection. I wanted to call Mike before signing consent and he offered to talk with him too. The doctor carried Jack to the procedure room and they were back within a half hour delivering him into my arms. His nose and eye looked great - the bridge of the nose is defined now. He has the same drops for the right eye and now different drops for the left that he gets four times a day for two weeks when he'll see doctor O'Mally again.
